Great Dane or a Mastiff can knock children down while playing. Similarly, small breeds viz. Chihuahuas, Pekingese, or Shih Tzu, are delicate and will not be able cope with rigorous play of children. Collie
Collies are loyal, protective, and make great companions for kids. Hence, they are considered to be one of the best breeds of dogs for kids. Their herding nature makes them extra caring for their little humans.
Golden Retriever
Golden retrievers are intelligent and have an eagerness to please. They are calm and make great companions for children. They hardly show aggression, and are easy to handle and train. This breed is also very tolerant to the activities of small children. However, they are clumsy and can knock down children while playing.
Beagle
Beagles are one of the most social dog breeds. They make good pets for children of all ages. They are carefree, playful, and can be fiercely loyal towards kids. The only thing to remember is to never disturb a beagle when it is having food as beagles take eating very seriously.
Poodle
Poodles are very affectionate and loving. They can be perfect pets for children as they love playing. They are very loyal and trustful. It is also essential to note that toy poodles can be cranky and snappy; while on the other hand, children may injure a poodle while playing.
Saint Bernard
St. Bernard is a large breed, meant only for older children. These gentle giants get along with children very easily. They are very popular as family dogs, because of their fiercely protective nature toward their humans. However, do remember not to allow your vanity come in the way. St. Bernards require cold climates, so if you live in warmer and/or humid places, it is advised not to own this breed.
Basset Hound
Basset hounds love children and get along with them very nicely. They enjoy outdoors as much as children, making them good playmates. They are gentle, loving, and very tolerant. These dogs are affectionate and do not show traits of aggression. However, they are delicate and not recommended for young children.
Labrador
Last but not the least, Labradors or ‘labs’ as they are called, are the most popular family dogs all over the world. They are playful, loyal, and very friendly. They enjoy outdoor games and show no signs of aggression. Labradors are also easy to train, enjoy company of people, making them the best recommended dog breed for kids.
Boxer, American Eskimo, Bichon Frise, English Bulldog, Dachshund, and German Shepherd, are some other breeds that are considered as the best dogs to own. Parents must remember to teach their children to treat pets like living beings and not things like toys. Children should not be left alone with pets as they may unintentionally harm the dog or get hurt themselves.
