Barbie as a Dog Name

A shortened form of the name Barbara, the legendary doll was named after the daughter of Mattel co-founders and inventors of Barbie, Ruth and Elliot Handler. The name Barbie means “foreign.”

Barbie’s Family

Chelsea —  Since 2011 children have had the chance to play with seven-year-old Chelsea, one of Barbie’s siblings! The name means “chalk landing place,” referring to wharves in the West London area where cargo containing chalk were unloaded.

Francie — If your new canine companion loves to wear puppy apparel, you might want to name her after Barbie’s fashion-forward cousin from England.

George —  Meaning “Earthworker,” George is the name of Barbie’s father, who has made appearances in several Barbie animated movies.

Margaret —  Although never a doll, as Barbie’s mother Margaret plays an important role in Barbie videos. The name Margaret means “pearl.” 

Millicent — Perhaps a name for an older fur baby, Millicent is Barbie’s grandmother. Meaning “strong in work,” Millicent is also Barbie’s middle name!

Skipper —  Barbie’s little teenage sis has been on the scene since 1964.

Stacie —  If your new tail-wagging chum is energetic and athletic, you might want to name your fur baby after Barbie’s 12-year-old, sport-loving sister! The name Stacie means “resurrection” and “fruitful.”

Tutti and Todd — Barbie’s little known twin siblings! While only a few fans may have played with Tutti and Todd dolls, which were sold as a set and manufactured from 1966 to 1971, children once again had the chance to add a Todd doll to their collection when the character was brought back from 1991 to 2008. The name Tutti means “all” or “together,” and Todd means “fox.”
