Our weekend plans may be
a bit more low-key these days, but there’s no shortage of fun things you and
your dog can get up to in the comfort of your home. We’ve put together a
round-up of our favorite no-cost activities you and your pup can enjoy together
over the weekend.
Start the day with breakfast in bed
Is there any better way to kick off the weekend than with breakfast in bed? We don’t think so! Start by filling your bed with as many pillows and blankets as can fit, so your dog can get nice and comfy while you prepare breakfast. If you want to spice up their regular Freshpet recipe, try mixing in some pet-safe human foods, which is sure to leave your pup begging for more! Once breakfast is ready, head back to bed and enjoy a cozy morning together.
Practice some doga
Dog yoga, or doga, is a yoga practice with your dog as either a participant in the flow or as a “prop”. Not only can doga be practiced anywhere, but it’s also a fun way to spend some quality one-on-one time with your pup and incorporate exercise into your weekend routine. Doga appeals to your dog’s instinct to stretch and offers them health benefits such as increased flexibility and muscle toning. What’s cool is that regular doga practice helps your dog prevent issues like arthritis and muscle strain that occur as they age. If you’ve never done doga before, we suggest keeping a container of their favorite Freshpet treats nearby as a motivator to keep your pup’s attention throughout the flow.
Treat yourselves to a spa day
Spending the day at the spa is a great way to unwind, but rarely are our dogs invited to join. Fortunately, it’s easy to set up a spa right in your own house that caters to both human and canine clientele! For a bit of extra fun, you could make a menu with all available spa services, such as bathing, grooming, nail trimming, or full body massage, and let your dog inspect the list and “choose” which they’d like. If this is your dog’s first time at the spa, we suggest using positive reinforcement to ensure that the experience is enjoyable. Keep a container of their favorite Freshpet recipe or treat nearby, so you can reward them for good behavior throughout the day. We’ve also put together a list of seven tips for grooming at home that may be helpful to check out before the spa day.
Enjoy a gourmet meal for two
If you prefer dinner over breakfast, why not try putting together a gourmet meal for you and your dog. This dinner could feature your favorite dish and your dog’s favorite Freshpet recipe as individual mains, but all side dishes could be shared if you make them using dog-safe ingredients such as green beans, carrots, baked potatoes, pumpkin, or broccoli. We gave some ideas for a tasty Thanksgiving menu that you could use as a starting point for planning your special Saturday night dinner!
Curl up on the couch and watch a movie
After a full day of activities, there’s nothing like curling up on the couch and watching a movie. Classics like 101 Dalmatians or Homeward Bound make a great choice, or you could opt for one of the many pet documentaries available on sites like Netflix or Hulu. Even if your dog doesn’t seem particularly interested in your movie choice, we have a feeling they’ll love a couple of hours of uninterrupted cuddles! When it comes to choosing a snack, small amounts of plain, air-popped popcorn is safe for dogs, but you could also opt for a healthy treat of carrots, green beans, or Freshpet Turkey Bacon. Whatever you decide on, just make sure the serving sizes are small to avoid a potential upset stomach.
We hope that this list
gives you inspiration for ways you can enjoy a no-cost weekend with your
beloved pup. Have an idea that’s not on this list? We’d love to hear about it
in the comments!
