The best inventions solve an everyday problem, and boy, did a fabulous invention come my way this month. The Wishbone is a simple accessory that instantly separates static-y layers on stubborn, hard-to-open plastic bags.
If you walk your dog regularly, you’ve been in this vulnerable position where your dog has just pooped and you now have to pick it up – but the slippery plastic poop bag just won’t open.
Yes, it’s a first-world problem, but when something comes along that can make your life just a little bit easier, jump on it. You’d be surprised at how much cumulative stress you save yourself by solving simple problems.
The Wishbone is a simple silicone grip that disrupts that static cling and separates the thin layers of plastic without a fuss.
Does It Really Work?
I wondered if I would naturally start to use the Wishbone, or if it would become inconvenient to grab it in the midst of fumbling with the bag.
Now that I’ve had it for about two weeks, using it has become ingrained in my muscle memory. It just WORKS.
I even use it at the grocery store when I’m bagging up my produce.
For me, the best place to attach it was on the strap of my phone-wallet case. I love that it’s bright yellow, so it’s impossible to lose. Since it’s made of silicone, it’s lightweight and won’t get scratched or break even though I’m dragging it around all day.
This quick little demo video is about ten seconds long, but it normally takes about half a second to use the Wishbone to get a bag open.
Under normal circumstances, or when I’m not multi-tasking as I take a video, using the Wishbone is more like a quick flick of the wrist. BAM, bag is open and I’m ready to snatch up a steaming turd.
Who Is This For?
I’m planning to buy a couple of Wishbones to have on-hand for holiday presents and stocking-stuffers.
They’re perfect for dog parents who take their dogs on daily walks, but even people who don’t have dogs would love them for grocery shopping. They’re perfect for opening produce bags.
Anyone who loses their keys often will appreciate the bright yellow accessory – it stands out, but it’s lightweight so it’s not going to add bulk to whatever you attach it to.
Mine is clipped to the strap of my phone case wallet. If you just plan to use it on walks, you can clip it to your leash handle.
How I’d Improve This Product
I can’t think of any way I could improve on this perfect simple design. I’d love to see how far it goes. Maybe we’ll start to see it in stores, in different colors, bundled with leashes and other doggy gear… who knows? In the meantime, we can brag that we knew about it before everyone else did.
How Can I Get One?
The Wishbone is up on Amazon for just a few bucks, perfect for throwing into your next order.
If you don’t mind waiting, you can enter for a chance to win a FREE Wishbone. The inventor of Wishbone has generously offered to giveaway TEN of them so that’s 10 chances to win.
