On September 13, 1969 everyone’s favorite Great Dane and the rest of the Scooby Gang solved their first supposed supernatural caper when the premiere episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! aired. Since then the cartoon canine has become a pop culture icon, and each year fans celebrate the anniversary of Scooby-Doo’s debut with Scooby Doo Day.

The name of the mystery-solving canine was inspired by none other than Frank Sinatra! The creator of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? misheard Ol’ Blue Eyes croon “doobie doobie-doo” on his classic rendition of “Strangers in The Night” and decided to dub his fictional dog Scooby!

You may know that Scooby’s nickname is “Scoob,” but did you know that the snack-loving Spot’s formal name is Scoobert?

The phrase “I haven’t got a Scooby-Doo” is Cockney slang for “I haven’t got a clue!”

The very first episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was titled “What A Night for A Knight.”
