Cats are more likely than dogs to trigger allergic reactions, but certain breeds produce lower levels of the Fel d 1 protein, the main allergy culprit.
1. Siberian
Despite their thick coat, Siberians produce lower levels of allergens than most cats. They’re also affectionate and playful.
2. Balinese
Sometimes called the “long-haired Siamese,” Balinese cats are intelligent, vocal, and produce less Fel d 1 protein than typical cats.
3. Devon Rex and Cornish Rex
These breeds have very short coats and minimal shedding. Their unique appearance and playful nature make them great family pets.
4. Sphynx
The hairless Sphynx doesn’t shed, making it ideal for severe allergies. However, they require regular bathing to remove oils and allergens from their skin.
